“How Many Products Do I Need to Start My Etsy Shop?”
One.
“How many products should I have before I start my shop?” is one of the most common questions I get from new and aspiring sellers. And every time, my answer is the same. One. You’re not doing yourself any favors by waiting until you have some arbitrary round number of products ready to list before you launch.
If you have one product ready to list for sale, do it. Then make another product and list that for sale. Keep an eye on your stats in the dashboard to see what people are looking at and how they’re getting there. Use that data to come up with more products. Rinse and repeat.
The first time you list something for sale on Etsy, it’ll feel tedious and clunky. If you start from a point of having 10 products ready to list and then do your first one, it’s going to feel like a massive, daunting task. You’re more likely to back away and put off the huge task rather than doing it in smaller pieces. Keep your mindset right by ditching the excuse of “I don’t have enough products yet” and list your first thing. That one thing is doing a lot more for you by sitting on Etsy than sitting in a draft folder on your computer as you hem and haw over whether it’s “the right time”. That one listing will be slowly introducing your shop into the soup of Etsy listings, so as you add more, the time you’ve already put into getting everything up and running will only work in your favor.
